HMG20A는 뉴런 분화에 관여하는 크로마틴 결합 단백질로, HMG20B의 억제자로 작용합니다. REST의 억제 효과를 극복하여 뉴런 특이적 유전자의 발현을 유도하며, 히스톤 메틸트랜스퍼라아제 KMT2A/MLL1의 모집과 히스톤 H3 라이신 4의 메틸화를 증가시킵니다.
