• Function: PCNA is an auxiliary and regulatory protein of DNA polymerase delta involved in control of eukaryotic DNA replication.

Target Information

PCNA (polymerase delta auxiliary protein) is essential for DNA replication and is involved in DNA excision and mismatch repair pathways.
It binds to the CDK inhibitor p21, structure-specific endonucleases Fen1 and XPG, and DNA cytosine 5-methyltransferase (MCMT).
PCNA is a useful marker of proliferative cells and tumor tissue proliferation status.
It is expressed in the nucleus, functions as a homotrimer, and enhances leading strand synthesis during DNA replication.
Upon DNA damage, PCNA is ubiquitinated and participates in the RAD6-dependent DNA repair pathway.
Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified; pseudogenes exist on chromosome 4 and the X chromosome.
