Target Information
The protein encoded by the RAD23B gene is one of two human homologs of Saccharomyces cerevisiae Rad23, a protein involved in nucleotide excision repair (NER). It forms part of the protein complex that complements the NER defect of xeroderma pigmentosum group C (XP-C) cell extracts in vitro. RAD23B interacts with and enhances the activity of 3-methyladenine-DNA glycosylase (MPG), suggesting a role in DNA damage recognition within base excision repair. The protein also contains an N-terminal ubiquitin-like domain that interacts with the 26S proteasome, indicating a potential role in the ubiquitin-mediated proteolytic pathway.
