Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the A-kinase anchoring protein (AKAP) family, which binds to the regulatory subunit of cAMP-dependent protein kinase A (PKA) and targets the enzyme to specific subcellular compartments. AKAPs share a common RII-binding domain but have distinct targeting motifs that direct PKA to different intracellular locations. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described. Additional variants may exist but have not been fully characterized.
