Target Information
Apoptosis is an important process by which normal tissue homeostasis and function are maintained. The Fas receptor and its ligand regulate this process, leading to formation of a death-inducing signaling complex containing FADD and activation of caspase-8, which triggers downstream caspases such as caspase-3 and -7. Overexpression of Toso, a regulator of Fas-induced apoptosis in lymphoid cells, renders cells resistant to Fas-induced apoptosis but not to TRAIL-induced apoptosis. Toso associates with FADD, suggesting it disrupts formation of the death-inducing signaling complex.
