Target Information

Steroid receptor co-activators (SRCs) were initially described as nuclear receptor transcription co-activators but have recently been found to co-regulate transcription initiated by other transcription factors.
GAS is a glutamate-rich protein interacting with SRC1 and the alpha subunit of the estrogen receptor (ERα), but not other receptors such as retinoic acid receptor α, indicating a specific interaction.
RNA interference-mediated depletion of GAS in MCF7 cells decreases mRNA and protein levels of ER target genes (pS2, c-Myc, cyclin D1), showing its role in ER target gene regulation.
GAS also associates with an SET1-like methyltransferase complex specific for H3K4 methylation, suggesting multiple roles in transcriptional regulation.
