Target Information
FOXO4 (Forkhead box O4) is encoded by the FOXO4 gene on the X chromosome.
Also known as AFX1 or MLLT7, FOXO4 belongs to the O class of forkhead/winged helix transcription factors, including FOXO1, FOXO3, and FOXO6.
It is highly expressed in skeletal muscle and adipose tissue, where it binds to the Insulin Responsive Element (IRE) and regulates Insulin/IGF1 signaling targets such as IGFBP1.
Phosphorylation of FOXO4 by Akt on specific Ser/Thr residues promotes binding to 14-3-3 proteins and nuclear export of FOXO4.
