Invitrogen™ Carboxyl Latex Beads, 4% w/v, 0.06 μm
Microspheres (also called latex beads or latex particles) are spherical particles in the colloidal size range that are formed from an amorphous polymer such as polystyrene. Because of the way that the polystyrene chains arrange themselves in the bead, the surface is highly hydrophobic, making these ideal materials for adsorption of proteins and other biomolecules.
The carboxyl latex consists of carboxyl charge-stabilized hydrophobic polystyrene microspheres. Only carboxyl groups are present on the particle surface. These particles are the carboxyl analog of sulfate latexes. Due to the relatively high pKa of the carboxyl group, they are not suitable for acidic media. IDC carboxyl latexes are available in various sizes and surface charge densities and can be used for physical adsorption or covalent coupling of antigens, antibodies, or other biomolecules.
