Target Information
The Breast Carcinoma Amplified Sequence (BCAS4) gene is localized to chromosome 20q13, a region frequently amplified in breast cancers. It was identified through cloning of a 1.3 kb transcript resulting from the fusion of the last two exons of BCAS3 and BCAS4 genes. This BCAS3–BCAS4 fusion transcript is specific to the MCF7 cell line, while BCAS4 itself is overexpressed in nine of thirteen breast cancer cell lines. Although the exact role of BCAS4 remains unclear, its mRNA is highly expressed in thymus, spleen, kidney, brain, and placenta, suggesting functional roles across multiple tissues.
