Target Information
Peroxiredoxin (Prx) is a growing peroxidase family associated with cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Mammalian Prx consists of six members categorized into typical 2-Cys, atypical 2-Cys, and 1-Cys Prx. Except Prx VI, the other five 2-Cys Prx isotypes exhibit thioredoxin-dependent peroxidase (TPx) activity utilizing thioredoxin, thioredoxin reductase, and NADPH. Mammalian Prxs are 20–30 kDa in size and vary in subcellular localization:
- Prx I, II, VI: Cytosol
- Prx III: Mitochondria
- Prx IV: ER and secretion
- Prx V: Peroxisome, mitochondria, and cytosol
