Target Information
CES2 is a member of the carboxylesterase large family. These enzymes hydrolyze or transesterify various xenobiotics (e.g., cocaine, heroin) and endogenous substrates with ester, thioester, or amide bonds. They may contribute to fatty acyl and cholesterol ester metabolism and play a role in the blood-brain barrier system. CES2 is the major intestinal enzyme involved in drug clearance in the intestine.
