Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes human LARGE1, a glycosyltransferase expressed mainly in the Golgi apparatus. Cross-reactivity with LARGE2 was not determined.
Target Information
The LARGE gene, one of the largest in the human genome, encodes a member of the N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase family. It participates in glycosylation of alpha-dystroglycan and may synthesize glycoprotein and glycosphingolipid sugar chains. Mutations cause MDC1D, a congenital muscular dystrophy with mental retardation and abnormal glycosylation of alpha-dystroglycan. Alternative splicing produces two transcript variants encoding the same protein.
