Target Information
GCNT7 is a 430 amino acid glycosyltransferase localized to the Golgi apparatus. Other members of this family include GCNT1, GCNT2, GCNT3, GCNT4, and GCNT6.
GCNT1 plays a regulatory role in mucin-type O-glycan biosynthesis, serving as ligands in cell adhesion. GCNT1 expression in leukocytes regulates synthesis of core 2 O-glycans carrying sialyl-Lewis x (sLex) oligosaccharides, which mediate high-affinity binding to Selectin proteins.
Downregulation of Selectin ligand expression inhibits tissue infiltration, making glycosyltransferase 14 family members potential drug targets for inflammatory disorders and other pathologies involving Selectin proteins.
