Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by remarkable biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight between approximately 40 kDa and 68 kDa and isoelectric pH between 4.9–7.8.
Each cytokeratin subtype (numbered 1–20) is characteristic of specific epithelial types and their differentiation states. Cytokeratin expression patterns assist in distinguishing epithelial malignancies and are useful tools in immunohistochemistry, cytopathology, and flow cytometry.
