Target Information
Parkinson’s disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder after Alzheimer’s disease, affecting approximately 1% of individuals over 65 years and 3% over 75 years of age. Synphilin-1 (Synuclein alpha interacting protein, SNCAIP) interacts with alpha-synuclein in neurons and contains multiple protein-protein interaction domains. Mutations in SNCAIP have been linked to Parkinson’s disease. Synphilin-1 plays a significant role in aggregate formation and cytotoxicity associated with Parkinson’s disease and may be involved in ubiquitination processes mediated by Dorfin. Expression patterns of synphilin-1 are conserved between human and mouse tissues, particularly in ankyrin-like and coiled-coil domains, contributing to synaptic function, protein degradation, and neurodegenerative mechanisms.
