Target Information
Stra8 (Stimulated by Retinoic Acid 8) is a meiosis-inducing factor required for the transition into meiosis in both female and male germ cells.
In female germ cells, it is essential for premeiotic DNA replication and subsequent meiotic prophase events.
During spermatogenesis, Stra8 promotes spermatogonial differentiation and meiotic initiation.
It can associate with DNA (possibly indirectly) and has been shown to activate DNA transcription in vitro.
