- Specificity Comments:
FOXL1 is a 337 amino acid protein belonging to the forkhead family, containing a forkhead DNA-binding domain. It acts as a winged helix transcriptional regulator expressed in the mesenchymal layer of the gastrointestinal tract. FOXL1-deficient mice show defects in epithelial and lymphoid tissues, including abnormal Peyer’s patch formation. FOXL1 functions as a mesenchymal modifier of APC gene products and plays a key role in gastrointestinal tumorigenesis. - Predicted to react in Rat.
Target Information
The forkhead domain is a ~100 amino acid monomeric DNA-binding motif originally identified from homology between Drosophila forkhead and rat HNF3 proteins. Pierrou et al. (1994) identified seven human genes containing forkhead domains, designated FREAC1–7 (Forkhead Related Activators).
