Target Information
ASAP1, also known as Development and differentiation enhancing factor 1, is a protein with two ANK repeats, an Arf-GAP domain, a PH domain, and an SH3 domain. ASAP1 is a homodimer known to interact with SRC and CRK, and its activity is stimulated by phosphatidylinositol 4,5-biphosphate (PIP2). It exhibits PIP2-dependent GTPase-activating protein activity for ARF1 and ARF5, and to a lesser extent for ARF6.
ASAP1 may coordinate membrane trafficking with cell growth or actin cytoskeleton remodeling by binding to both SRC and PIP2. It may function as a signal transduction protein involved in the differentiation of fibroblasts into adipocytes and other cell types. Widely expressed in most tissues, ASAP1 is a proto-oncogene implicated in invasive breast cancer and other malignant tumors such as uveal melanomas.
