Target Information
TAS2R41 is a receptor that may play a role in the perception of bitterness and belongs to the G-protein receptor superfamily. It is expressed mainly in taste receptor cells of the tongue and palate epithelia. Structurally, TAS2R41 encodes a seven-transmembrane receptor protein and is clustered with eight other taste receptor genes on chromosome 7.
Chloramphenicol acts as an agonist for TAS2R41. This receptor may also sense the chemical composition of gastrointestinal content. TAS2R41 activity can stimulate alpha gustducin, mediate PLC-beta-2 activation, and lead to TRPM5 gating. It is expressed in subsets of gustducin-positive taste receptor cells, which can discriminate among bitter stimuli.
