Target Information
MC1R (Melanocortin Receptor) mediates the effects of melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH) and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). MSH and MC1R are key regulators of melanogenesis, controlling the balance between red pheomelanin and black eumelanin in the skin by promoting eumelanin production. Non-functional or truncated receptors result in lighter pigmentation, while constitutively active receptors lead to darker coloration.
