Target Information
Galectins are a family of beta-galactoside-binding proteins involved in modulating cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions. The LGALS9 gene encodes an S-type lectin that is overexpressed in Hodgkin’s disease tissue. It may participate in interactions between Hodgkin and Reed–Sternberg cells and surrounding cells, potentially contributing to disease pathogenesis and immunodeficiency. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants are known for this gene.
