Target Information
The PLAGL1 gene encodes a C2H2 zinc finger protein with transactivation and DNA-binding activities. It exhibits anti-proliferative properties and is considered a tumor suppressor. Overexpression during fetal development is associated with transient neonatal diabetes mellitus (TNDM).
This gene is imprinted, showing preferential expression of the paternal allele in many tissues, though biallelic expression occurs in peripheral blood leukocytes. Tissue-specific imprinting results from variable promoter utilization. Multiple transcript variants with different 5′ UTRs exist, encoding two isoforms.
