Intercellular Adhesion Molecule-3 (ICAM-3) is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily and functions as a ligand for Lymphocyte Function-Associated Antigen-1 (LFA-1). ICAM-3 is a heavily glycosylated membrane protein with five immunoglobulin-like domains and shares high homology with ICAM-1 and ICAM-2 in the extracellular region. Unlike ICAM-1 and ICAM-2, ICAM-3 is not expressed on endothelial cells but is present on resting lymphocytes, monocytes, and neutrophils, serving as the major LFA-1 ligand on these cells. Its expression pattern suggests an important role in the initiation of immune responses.

Target Information

CD50 (ICAM-3) is a transmembrane glycoprotein expressed by leukocytes that serves as a counter-receptor for LFA-1 integrin. It mediates adhesion between T cells and antigen-presenting cells and regulates LFA-1 affinity for ICAM-1, promoting T cell activation and proliferation. ICAM-3 is essential in initiating immune responses and interacts with CD209 (DC-SIGN), a C-type lectin on dendritic cells and macrophages, facilitating communication between dendritic cells and granulocytes.
