Target Information
PICALM, also known as CALM (clathrin assembly lymphoid myeloid leukemia protein), co-localizes with clathrin at coated areas of the plasma membrane and Golgi region. It plays a key role in coated pit internalization machinery. Fusion proteins involving PICALM are implicated in acute myeloid and T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. PICALM is expressed in neurons and facilitates endocytosis of synaptic vesicle protein VAMP2. Variants of PICALM have been associated with Alzheimer’s disease, suggesting a role in APP endocytosis and recycling.
