Description:
The 85BRD monoclonal antibody reacts with human interleukin-13 (IL-13), also known as NC30, a 12.5 kDa protein secreted by activated T helper cells, CD8⁺ T cells, and NK cells. IL-13 functions include suppression of macrophage cytotoxic activity, upregulation of IL-1RA expression, and suppression of inflammatory cytokine expression.

Applications Reported:
This antibody is reported for use in flow cytometric analysis.

Applications Tested:
Pre-diluted and validated for flow cytometric analysis of stimulated normal human peripheral blood cells using the Intracellular Fixation & Permeabilization Buffer Set (Product # 88-8824-00) and the BestProtocols® Two-step intracellular staining protocol.
Recommended usage: 5 µL (0.5 µg) per test in a final volume of 100 µL. Optimal cell number should be determined empirically (typically 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test).

Target Information

IL-13 is an immunoregulatory cytokine produced mainly by activated Th2 cells. It regulates inflammatory and immune responses by down-regulating macrophage activity and inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokine and chemokine production. IL-13 is implicated in allergen-induced asthma independent of IgE and eosinophils, influences B cell maturation and differentiation, upregulates CD23 and MHC class II expression, and promotes IgE isotype switching.
The IL-13 gene is located on chromosome 5q within a cytokine gene cluster alongside IL3, IL5, IL4, and CSF2.
