Target Information

KIF14 encodes a member of the kinesin-3 superfamily of microtubule motor proteins. These proteins are involved in vesicle transport, chromosome segregation, mitotic spindle formation, and cytokinesis.
In HeLa-S3 and 293T cells, KIF14 localizes to the cytoplasm during interphase, to spindle poles and microtubules during mitosis, and to the midbody during cytokinesis.
Its motor domain exhibits microtubule-dependent ATPase activity. Knockdown of KIF14 leads to failed cytokinesis and multinucleated cells.
KIF14 is identified as a potential oncogene in breast, lung, ovarian cancers, retinoblastomas, and gliomas.
Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
