Target Information
Albumin is a soluble, monomeric protein comprising about half of the blood serum protein. It functions primarily as a carrier protein for steroids, fatty acids, and thyroid hormones, and stabilizes extracellular fluid volume.
Albumin is a globular, unglycosylated serum protein (MW ~65,000), synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin. The N-terminal peptide is removed before release from the rough endoplasmic reticulum, producing proalbumin, which is then cleaved in the Golgi vesicles to yield secreted albumin.
