Target Information

Huntingtin disease, a neurodegenerative disorder, is caused by the expansion of a polymorphic glutamine tract in huntingtin. The Huntingtin Interacting Protein 1 (HIP-1) is a proapoptotic, cargo-specific adaptor protein potentially involved in the pathogenesis of Huntingtin disease. HIP1R may also participate in clathrin coat recruitment to lipid membranes and contribute to tumorigenesis by promoting survival of precancerous and cancerous cells.
HIP1R expression is significantly associated with prostate and colon cancer metastasis, making it a potential prognostic marker for these cancers.
