Claudin 22는 클라우딘(claudin) 패밀리에 속하는 단백질로, 세포 간 tight junction의 구성 요소입니다. Tight junction은 상피 또는 내피 세포층 사이의 세포 간 공간을 통한 용질 및 수분의 자유로운 이동을 방지하는 물리적 장벽 역할을 하며, 세포 극성 유지 및 신호 전달에도 중요한 역할을 합니다.
이 유전자는 인트론이 없으며, 반대 가닥의 WWC2 유전자(GeneID: 80014)의 3' UTR과 겹칩니다.
