Target Information

Using SAGE (Serial Analysis of Gene Expression) technology, St. Croix et al. identified 46 genes with elevated expression in tumor-associated endothelium. Nine of these, including TEM7 (Tumor Endothelial Marker 7), are highly expressed in tumor endothelial cells but absent in normal endothelium.
TEM7 transcripts are specifically expressed in the endothelium of colorectal, lung, pancreatic, breast, and brain cancers, both in primary and metastatic forms. Other family members (TEM1, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9) show similar patterns in lung and brain tumors and liver metastases.
These genes, differentially expressed in tumor endothelium and during angiogenesis, are valuable for basic and clinical studies of human angiogenesis.
