Target Information
This gene encodes a transcription factor that belongs to the leucine zipper family of DNA-binding proteins. It binds to the cAMP-responsive element, an octameric palindrome, and interacts with host cell factor C1 (HCF1). HCF1 also associates with the herpes simplex virus (HSV) protein VP16, which induces transcription of HSV immediate-early genes. Both this protein and VP16 bind to the same site on HCF1, suggesting a role in HSV latency regulation. An additional transcript variant has been identified, though its biological significance remains unclear.
