Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is similar to yeast Sec31 protein, a component of the COPII protein complex responsible for vesicle budding from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). SEC31A colocalizes with SEC13 in subcellular structures related to vesicle transport. Immunodepletion experiments confirm its requirement for ER–Golgi transport. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
