Target Information
The zinc transporter ZIP14 (SLC39A14) is a member of the divalent ion transporter family. Zinc is an essential ion involved in cellular growth, development, and differentiation.
The zinc transporter family is divided into four subfamilies: I, II, LIV-1, and gufA. ZIP14 is a glycosylated multipass plasma membrane protein belonging to the LIV-1 subfamily.
ZIP14 contributes to hypozincemia during inflammation and infection, regulated in the liver by IL-6. It also mediates uptake of non–transferrin-bound iron and transferrin-bound iron.
