Target Information

The protein encoded by S100A6 is a member of the S100 family containing two EF-hand calcium-binding motifs.
S100 proteins are found in the cytoplasm and/or nucleus of various cells and regulate processes such as cell cycle progression and differentiation.
These genes are clustered on chromosome 1q21 and may play roles in Ca²⁺-dependent insulin release, prolactin secretion, and exocytosis.
Altered expression and chromosomal rearrangements of this gene have been associated with melanoma.
