Target Information
HAP1 (huntingtin-associated protein 1) binds to huntingtin, a protein with a polyglutamine region. When the number of glutamine repeats exceeds 35, huntingtin becomes pathogenic, leading to Huntington’s disease (HD).
HAP1’s binding to huntingtin is enhanced by expanded polyglutamine repeats. It is mainly expressed in brain tissue, especially in the olfactory bulb and brain stem.
Mouse HAP1 is localized to membrane-bound organelles such as endosomes, tubulovesicular structures, and budding vesicles in neurons.
Duo, also known as huntingtin-associated protein interacting protein (HAPIP), interacts with HAP1 and may play a role in vesicle trafficking and cytoskeletal function.
