Target Information
Myosin phosphatase target subunit 1 (MYPT1), also known as the myosin-binding subunit of myosin phosphatase, is one of the subunits regulating the interaction of actin and myosin downstream of Rho GTPase. RhoA, in its active GTP-bound form, interacts with MYPT1 to modulate myosin light chain (MLC) phosphorylation, influencing smooth muscle contraction and cytoskeletal dynamics in nonmuscle cells. Rho-associated kinase (Rho-kinase) phosphorylates and inactivates MYPT1, thereby inhibiting myosin phosphatase activity. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
