Product Specific Information

  • Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
  • Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.

Target Information

Cytosolic and membrane-bound forms of glutathione S-transferase are encoded by two distinct supergene families. Eight distinct classes of soluble cytoplasmic mammalian glutathione S-transferases have been identified: alpha, kappa, mu, omega, pi, sigma, theta, and zeta.
This gene encodes a glutathione S-transferase belonging to the mu class, which functions in detoxification of electrophilic compounds (carcinogens, therapeutic drugs, environmental toxins, oxidative stress products) via conjugation with glutathione.
Mu class genes are organized in a cluster on chromosome 1p13.3 and are highly polymorphic. Variations can affect susceptibility to carcinogens and drug toxicity. Null mutations of this class mu gene are linked to increased cancer risk due to higher sensitivity to toxins. Multiple protein isoforms are encoded by transcript variants of this gene.
