Target Information
Caspase 7 is a member of the cysteine protease family divided into apoptotic and inflammatory subfamilies.
Apoptotic caspases include initiator and executioner types; Caspase 7 functions as an executioner caspase, cleaving cellular substrates during apoptosis.
It shares homology with Caspases 1 and 3 and the C. elegans protein CED-3.
Alternative splicing of Caspase-7 mRNA generates three isoforms, and its activity can be inhibited by XIAP expression.
Diseases associated with CASP7 include Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus 17 and Aleutian Mink Disease.
