Target Information
Fox-3, also known as NeuN, HRNBP3, or RBFOX3 (RNA binding protein, fox-1 homolog C), is a 350 amino acid protein containing one RRM (RNA recognition motif) domain. It is localized to both the nucleus and cytoplasm and is suggested to regulate alternative splicing events.
Fox-3 is encoded by a gene located on human chromosome 17, which represents over 2.5% of the human genome and encodes more than 1,200 genes. Chromosome 17 includes two key tumor suppressor genes, p53 and BRCA1:
- p53: Maintains genetic integrity through DNA repair and apoptosis; its loss is linked to malignant growth and Li-Fraumeni syndrome.
- BRCA1: Involved in DNA repair; mutations are associated with early-onset breast cancer and predisposition to ovarian, colon, prostate, and fallopian tube cancers.
