Target Information
Fox-3, also known as NeuN, HRNBP3, or RBFOX3 (RNA binding protein, fox-1 homolog C), is a 350 amino acid protein containing one RRM (RNA recognition motif) domain. It is localized to both the nucleus and cytoplasm and is suggested to regulate alternative splicing events. Fox-3 is encoded by a gene located on human chromosome 17, which encompasses over 2.5% of the human genome and encodes more than 1,200 genes.
Chromosome 17 also includes two key tumor suppressor genes, p53 and BRCA1:
- p53: Maintains cellular genetic integrity by controlling DNA repair and apoptosis. Loss or malfunction is linked to malignant cell growth and Li-Fraumeni syndrome.
- BRCA1: Involved in DNA repair and associated with early-onset breast and ovarian cancers, as well as cancers of the colon, prostate, and fallopian tubes.
