Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight between approximately 40 kDa and 68 kDa and isoelectric pH between 4.9 and 7.8.
Individual human cytokeratins are numbered 1 to 20. Expression patterns are characteristic of epithelium type and maturation degree, aiding in differential diagnosis of epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies are useful in immunohistochemistry, cytopathology, and flow cytometric assays.
