Target Information
The human alanyl-tRNA synthetase (AARS) belongs to a family of tRNA synthases of class II enzymes. Class II tRNA synthases are highly conserved and evolved early in evolution. The human AARS (968 residues) shares 41% identity with the E. coli protein. These enzymes interpret the RNA code and attach specific amino acids to tRNAs containing cognate anticodons. They consist of a catalytic domain interacting with the amino acid acceptor-T psi C helix of the tRNA and a second domain interacting with the rest of the tRNA structure.
