This antibody detects endogenous levels of total RPLP2 protein.

Target Information

Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis and consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits contain 4 RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins.
The RPLP2 gene encodes a ribosomal phosphoprotein that is part of the 60S subunit and belongs to the L12P family. It functions similarly to the E. coli L7/L12 ribosomal protein and plays a key role in the elongation step of protein synthesis.
Unlike most ribosomal proteins, RPLP2 is acidic. Its C-terminal region is nearly identical to those of ribosomal phosphoproteins P0 and P1. The P2 protein interacts with P0 and P1 to form a pentameric complex consisting of P1 and P2 dimers and a P0 monomer. The protein is localized in the cytoplasm.
Multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene are dispersed throughout the genome. (provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008)
