Target Information

CD28 antigen is a 44 kDa disulfide-linked homodimeric T-cell-specific surface glycoprotein. It is a cell adhesion molecule of the immunoglobulin superfamily, constitutively expressed on most peripheral blood T lymphocytes. CD28 acts as a critical co-stimulatory receptor, providing the second activation signal by binding CD80 and CD86 expressed on antigen-presenting cells. It prevents T cells from entering an anergic state or undergoing premature apoptosis. In murine lymphoid organs, CD4+ and CD8+ T cells express CD28, with expression levels varying between immature and mature thymocytes. Dysfunction of CD28 is associated with diseases such as mycosis fungoides and Sezary’s disease.
