Target Information
Apoptosis is a key process for maintaining normal tissue homeostasis and function. Activation of the Fas receptor by its ligand triggers the formation of a Fas-associated death domain (FADD)-containing death-inducing signaling complex, leading to activation of caspase-8 and downstream effector caspases such as caspase-3 and -7. Overexpression of Toso, a novel regulator of Fas-induced apoptosis in lymphoid cells, renders cells resistant to Fas-induced but not TRAIL-induced apoptosis. Toso associates with FADD, suggesting it disrupts the formation of the death-inducing signaling complex.
