GDF9 (Growth Differentiation Factor 9)은 BMP(bone morphogenetic protein) 패밀리 및 TGF-beta 슈퍼패밀리에 속하는 단백질입니다. 이 단백질군은 폴리베이직 절단 부위를 가지며, 절단 후 7개의 보존된 시스테인 잔기를 포함한 성숙 단백질을 형성합니다.
이 패밀리의 구성원들은 배아 및 성체 조직 모두에서 세포 성장과 분화를 조절하는 역할을 합니다.
난소 체세포에서 합성되는 성장 인자는 난자의 성장과 기능에 직접적인 영향을 미치며, GDF9은 난자에서 발현되어 난포 형성(ovarian folliculogenesis)에 필수적인 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
