Target Information
Adaptins are key components of clathrin-coated vesicles that transport ligand–receptor complexes from the plasma membrane or trans-Golgi network to lysosomes.
The adaptin family includes alpha, beta, beta-prime, and gamma adaptins. These, along with medium and small subunits, form heterotetrameric adaptor complexes that promote clathrin-coated pit and vesicle formation.
The gamma-adaptin protein encoded by this gene belongs to the adaptor complex large subunit family. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
