Calcyclin은 2개의 EF-hand calcium-binding motif를 포함하는 S100 단백질군의 구성원입니다. S100 단백질은 다양한 세포의 세포질 및 핵에 존재하며, 세포 주기 진행과 분화 등 여러 세포 과정의 조절에 관여합니다. S100 유전자는 최소 13개의 멤버로 구성되어 있으며, 염색체 1q21에 클러스터 형태로 위치합니다. 이 단백질은 Ca2+-의존적 인슐린 분비, 프로락틴 분비 및 세포 외 분비(exocytosis)에 관여할 수 있습니다. 염색체 재배열 및 발현 변화는 흑색종(melanoma)과 관련이 있습니다.
