Target Information
In humans, ZIM2 and PEG3 are distinct genes sharing multiple 5′ exons and a common promoter, both paternally expressed. Alternative splicing connects shared exons to unique exons of ZIM2 or PEG3. In other mammals, ZIM2 is not imprinted and does not share exons with PEG3. Human PEG3 belongs to the Kruppel C2H2-type zinc finger protein family, playing roles in cell proliferation and p53-mediated apoptosis. PEG3 exhibits tumor suppressor activity and involvement in tumorigenesis in glioma and ovarian cells. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.
