Target Information
N-cadherin is a 140 kDa transmembrane protein of the cadherin family that mediates calcium-dependent intercellular adhesion. Cadherins regulate morphogenetic movements during development and control cell surface adhesion through homotypic interactions.
Its function depends on association with the actin cytoskeleton via catenin proteins, regulated by phosphorylation of β-catenin.
N-cadherin is composed of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail, playing essential roles during gastrulation and left-right asymmetry establishment.
